Ancient Olympics mascot

Our task was to create a ancient Olympics mascot because back in 776BC  there was no mascots. To be able to create our own ancient Olympic mascot we looked at some of the modern olympics mascot and got some ideas from it so we know what we are going to be creating Me and my partner decided we are gonna do a oxen. This is because the ancient Olympics had to sacrificed 100 oxen’s to feed the men that were competing in the ancient olympics and we had also added a olive leaf wreath in our mascot because in the ancient Olympics if you won in a competition you would get  a olive leaf wreath and if you were really good you would be rewarded with a statue. Me and partner named our oxen Agatha because it stands for good.

I found this interesting because I got to create my own mascot about the ancient Olympics.

Provocation: Paris Olympic 2024

LI : To make a informed opinion

LI : To understand the perspective

LI : To understand that your perspective influences your opinion

For this task we learnt about Paris Olympics 2024. Me and my partner made some Google slides about the Paris Olympic and we did Perspective A and Perspective B and in-between it there was our personal opinion and me and my partner wrote Our personal opinion. Our personal opinion is that Paris should have spent money on houses for the homeless people because over 300,000 homeless people have been living on the streets. On Perspective A we wrote Yes, Paris should have spent money on the Olympic 2024 because the athletes could experience the memories of the Paris Olympic 2024. Paris will raise more money during the olympics because of the tourists giving money, If they raise money they will be able to donate to charities, medical care, education and buildings. It can also help in showcasing the city on a global stage, attracting investment, and fostering cultural exchange. However, critics argue that the cost of hosting the event is often underestimated, leading to financial burdens on the host city. For perspective B we wrote No, Paris shouldn’t spend their money on the Olympic 2024 because Paris have spent 10 billion euros for Stadiums, Facilities, Olympic fireworks and Villages. They should donate to charities and education. Paris should carefully consider the decision to spend 10 billion euros on the 2024 Olympics for several reasons. Hosting the Olympics is a massive undertaking that requires significant financial resources. Hosting the Olympics is a massive undertaking that requires significant financial resources. There are concerns about the long-term economic impact and the potential for the event to result in a financial burden on the city.

I found this task interesting because we learnt about the Paris Olympics.

Kahoot – Ancient Olympics

LI : to recall our knowledge on the Ancient Olympics at speed.

For this task we play a game of Kahoot, this Kahoot what based on the ancient Olympics we had to recall what we learnt. What I learnt about the ancient olympics is that the ancient Olympics started in 776 BC and they banned trainings in 394AD. Women couldn’t participate in the ancient Olympics they couldn’t even observe what the men were doing but women could only train horses or stay home and do chores.

I found this interesting because I got to learn what men and women did at the ancient Olympics, I got to learn about Zeus and Heraean games.

Two words Two minutes

Today we used the ‘2 words 2 minute’ challenge to write a description about the ancient olympics. After talking in pairs about the things we already knew about the ancient  olympics. that would help us write our description. We chose the words ‘Greece’ and ‘athletes’ to help us think about what we were going to write. We talked about ideas with a partner, then we had 2 minutes to put those ideas into sentences.  After the time was up we had 2 minutes to reread what we had written and make changes if anything didn’t make sense or if we had words and punctuation in the wrong place. When we finished checking we had 2 more minutes to carry on writing our descriptions.

I found this activity interesting because it was challenging me in writting as fast as I could.

Ancient Greek Olympics Research Challenge

LI: To use our smart searching skills to help us explore the ancient olympic games

LI : To work collaboratively in groups as an active participant and contributor

Our challenge was to work in our groups to carry out a mini collaborative inquiry into the ancient olympic games. We used our smart searching skills to help us answer the questions. Our group worked well because we all contributed to the slides and made sure that all of us were on track and included. Something I found interesting was that the ancient olympics started in 776BC, and was to honour Zeus.

I found this intresting because I learnt about the Ancient Olympic Games and the Heraean Games.

Catapults

For this week we had created a catapults. We used our ideas we had, and discussed in our group what was our idea gonna be. We had many newspaper and started using them to build our small base and making poles/sticks out for them, we rolled many newspaper and started taping them together to build our top base and our little sling shot bucket. Also we talked about the push, pull the forces and getting rubber bands to make the force more stronger and to make it shoot far. Other had their own ideas on a catapults, and their own styles. Soon we had our competition and vsing other to see who wins.

I found this activity interesting because I learnt the push and pull and new skills with my group.

Samoan language week

For this task me and my group created a DLO about Samoan language week. My group and I designed the questions and answer them by using our smart seaching skills. We then also used our searching skills to find intresting facts.  I leanrt why the samoan tatau is important? , Do both men and women get a tatau?. Is it important to get a tatau the tradional way?. I got to learn that the symbols for a tatau has diffrent meanings to it.

Do both men and women get a tatau ?

Both men and women can get a tatau but it has to be in diffrent parts of the body. Men has to get a tatau from they waist to the knees. For mens tatau i could take weeks or even months. For women to get a tatau they have to get it on their hand or on their knees to their waist which is called a malu. Samoan tatau is important because it repersents honor, community, and pride.

I found this activity really intresting because i got to learn what a tatau is and why its important. I got to learn what a tatau is and how it is tradionaly done.

Catapults Research

Before we created our catapults, we had to do some research about them to be able to create them accurately. The three catapults we had to gather information about were the Trebuchet, Mangonel, and Ballista. The purpose of catapults are to hurl hefty objects such as rocks, hot tar and spears. One of its main points is to demolish castle walls. Catapults are used to launch arrows in the directions of the castle. Catapults are confirmed to be very violent. It can cause a lot of damage. There are 3 types of catapults: Ballista, Trebuchet and Mangonel: The Ballista was a highly accurate weapon. A Ballista is a type of catapult, a mix of a catapult and a crossbow.

I found this task interesting be cause I got to learn about catapults and how there are diffrent types of catapults.

Catapults

For our task, our task was to create an accurate catapult. To be able to create it, we had to do learn about push and pull forces. Push, is when you are pushing something away from you. Pull , is when you are pulling something towards you. We each planned out our catapults individually, and labelled each of the materials that were needed. Which were newspaper, tape, a pencil and rubber bands. To make a sturdy base and structure, we tightly rolled newspapers, and taped it to make sure that it was sealed and secure. We used tape to create the structure of our catapult by wrapping it around the outside of the two pieces of newspaper to keep it sturdy.

I enjoyed this task because I got to learn how to make a catapult and got to learn the different types of catapults.

Samoan language week

LI: make a pattern for Samoan language week.

For this task we had to create a pattern that is based on samoan language week. I chose the malu  because  the meaning is being protected by your family members. My second design i choose was a fetu a star because it shows how much my parents care for me and my siblings. My third design i chose was a toluse (cross) Because that shows the connection between me and my family. lastly i choose an atualoa that represents how strong my parents are and how they manage taking care of me and my siblings even though we are struggling.

I found this task interesting because I learnt the meaning of a malu and why a malus are important.
