To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

For inquiry we learned about dinosaurs, fossils and paleontologists. We were challenged to create a story about Mary Anning who is known as a famous fossil hunter and paleontologist in 1811. We went into partners and created a google vid that tells us about what happened and what she did during being a palaeontologist. Something I found interesting was Mary Anning was the only person who survived when the lightning struck, and when her father passed away and they were poor she started to sell her fossils she had found in cliffs and in the beaches in  Lyme Regis in England to carry on her fathers career.

Just visualise that everywhere you look in any direction is jam-packed full of nature, there seems to be no end in sight, only plants, and exotic, strange, mysterious living organisms. Thump , thump, thump … there seems to be a big bellowing thing heading your way, making your way passed the muddy land, moments passed, then out of nowhere your survival instincts catches on… RUN. Your calves start aching your heavy heart hasn’t stopped pumping adrenaline, strangely you break a cold sweat then CHOMP! Well luckily that thing that had just ate you up is now underground, extinct and forever encased in mother nature’s arms, dating back into the ages of middle earth lived dinosaurs! These animals were part of the reptilian family and are presumed to be apex predators in the days, while also being named friendly giants for some of them being strictly herbivores, but then after the ‘ catastrophe ’ most of life vanished out of existence, leaving nothing but memory. Then Humanity started to take over and then we started discovering bones, patterns, strange dents in the surface of earth, most discoveries being Body fossil meaning that it were the leftovers of prehistoric animals, and if you look towards the image on the left it shows a picture of an animal’s skeleton cemented in the ground floor, this tells how might’ve the animal appeared to be with its features, structure, ect. In contrast to the picture on the right is showing rand streaks of lines into the ground, these are called ‘ Trace Fossils ’ where the animal had left either footprints, teeth marks and also unhatched eggs, these are utilised to help our further understanding on how they live and what they did on a daily basis of life in the Jurassic Period!

For Inquiry we were challenged to create a DLO explaing facts about Mount Whakaari or Mount Tarawera, but before we created a DLO we got a option to choose whether you want to create a DLO explaing facts about Mount Whakaari or explain facts about Mount Tarawera. Mount Whakaari is aslo known as White Island,`did you know that Whakaari/White Island is privately owned and has been a scenic reserve since 1953.

For inquiry we learned about volcanoes and what the different types are. What causes a volcanic eruption? The volcano erupts when 2 tectonic plates crash and touch each other that can make the magma rise to the Earth’s surface which can rise and flow out onto the flat surface of land (that can cause damage to buildings and people, etc…). While it’s erupting, the gas goes everywhere including it going higher than the clouds are usually at. Once the pressure is high enough, the magma erupts which could push through the volcano’s vent. What are the 4 types/differences of volcanoes? The 4 types of volcanoes are shield, cinder cone, composite (another word is stratovolcanoes and lava domes. I enjoyed doing this activity because I get to learn information about volcanoes by watching the videos and using our smart searching skills.

The 4 Types of Volcanoes are

Cone : Cone volcanoes are shaped like a cone that has steep sides that go up to a point at the top. When a volcano erupt it throws out lava.

Dome : Dome volcanoes is a kind of rounded hill that are formed thick, sticky lava comes out of a volcano vent.

Shield : Shield Volcanoes are wide and has a gently slope that looks like big, flat hill. They’re made by runny lava that flows easily which makes it spread out over a large area of concrete.

Caldera : Caldera is a large hole on the Earth’s surface formed for when a volcano collapses or erupts.These eruptions empty the volcano’s magma chamber met very quickly.

LI: To create a collage of images or short movie that reflects my time at camp

Our camp at Kokako Lodge in Hunua was super fun, My movie shows all the acivities we did during camp, I chose these photos because some people overcame their fears and it holds a lot of memories reminding me about my first ever camp I went to. My favourite part of camp was after dinner we would all go to the Stuart room and we wrote some notes about our acivities and expressed our feelings about how we felt during the activities we did.

LI: To identify and understand how descriptive language is used to create a clear picture of a setting in a text.

I found this activity challenging because the AI sometimes didn’t give us what we wanted but I found it fun because I got to create a AI image using the prompts it gave me, Something I learnt when using prompts for AI is you have to give a specific wording to what you want onto your AI image.
