Kauri Dieback

LI: To understand what Kauri dieback is and how it spreads

Our challenge today was to use the links provided and our own smart searching skills to find out what Kauri dieback is and what we need to do to try and prevent this from spreading. We need to know about this so that we do our part to keep our Kauri safe when we go on hike at camp. I worked with Amorangi and we found it interesting that a Kauri is the largest forest tree but found only in the Northern North Island, it has a large trunk and small, leathery leaves, kauri resin, soot from burnt kauri gum used for tattooing. A tall white timber tree of New Zealand having white straight grained wood. It’s the largest forest tree in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Evolution of the NZ Flag

LI: To understand the story behind our flag

Our challenge today was to create a collaborative presentation that reflects the story behind our NZ flag. We did this by looking at how our flag has changed over time. Something I found interesting was the British flag that is on the NZ flag represents the Union Jacks. The blue color represents the blue sea and the sky’s surroundings, The diamond shaped postition that the stars are forming represents the Southern cross signify our place in the South Pacific Ocean. The Sourthern cross is one of the striking features of the Sourthern sky.

3D Shapes – Strand

L.I: How 2D and 3D shapes are defined.

3D shapes are shapes that have 3 dimensions, length, width, and height. Properties of shapes are what the shapes own, or the shapes’s features. Like faces, edges, and vertices (corners). Properties of a cube could be 6 faces, 8 vertices (corners), and 12 edges. For this activity we drew 3D shapes in our math books, and wrote its properties.

This activity was interesting because I learnt the properties of a few 3D shapes.

2D shapes

LI:

2D shapes are shapes that only have two dimensions, length and width. We learnt what vertices and edges are. For example, a square has 4 sides and 4 vertices. Vertices can also be called corners. Properties in this topic means what the shape owns. We drew 2D shapes in our math book and named the properties of each shape.

I enjoyed doing this activity because I learnt what the propeties are in 2D shapes.

Matariki Star

LI :To plan, design and create a class star for Matariki that tells a story.

For this task, I had to design a Matariki Star. We had to search some ideas and gets some from each other, We started drawing on a paper and then when we had our idea we had to add our design ideas on a ditgial google draw. I added some little detials to my star and my story that I created. I drawed many different ideas, to create and I decided to make this design. Soon I was finished I added my story I writed my story and explained it.

I found this task fun because I learnt many Maori information and I learnt how to design and learnt the Matariki day.
