SLJ – Legs Legs Legs? – Kick Start

LI: Mosha wants a new leg!

For this Summer Learning Journey Task, We were challenged to redesign Mosha’s Prosmetic leg. designed her leg as baby elephants and colored it blue with the band a darker blue, I choose this because its her miniture self. One thing I enjoyed about this task is that I got the chance to design Mosha prosmetic leg. One thing I would say relating from this task is that its okay to be  different from others, that just makes you more unique than others!.

SLJ – Legs Tally – Step it up

LI : To learn about giant Centipedes

For this Summer Learning Journey Avtivity, We challenged again by the Manaiakalani to answer  the questions they had written for us but more extreme,  This work asked us  facts about a centipede how big and long it is. Something I enjoy about these task that the Manaiakalani set for us is I get to keep my learning going even when i’m not at school and I can still keep my education going prepared for what’s coming next year. One thing I enjoyed about this task is I got to learn facts about Centipedes for example  how long and big it could be , These insects have powers which  it can regrow anything that is damaged on it’s body which I find really cool. Something I enjoyed about these tasks that the Manaiakalani have set for us is that we can learn new things everyday and keep our learning going more prepared for school next year!

LI : Show your maths knowledge using centipede legs.

For this Summer Learning Journey Activity, We learnt about the insect Centipede. The Manaiakalani challanged us to make a copy of  a DLO and answer the maths that were already written in text boxes ,The main idea of this task is to learn our maths and show our knowledge using centipedes as the main topic. One thing I enjoyed about this task is that Centipede they can regenerate a appendage which means if they had lost a leg or legs they could regrow another.

SLJ – Art in the Web – Step it up

For the Summer Learning Journey Step it up activity, I was challenged to get creative and break out those scissors to do some more challenging crafting. For this step up activity, we would need paper, and some toilet rolls. I watched a video on “how to” to help us learn to cut the toilet rolls to create little spiders and paper to cut out spiderwebs. We also watched an article video called SpiderWebs Artists at Work. After we finished doing all of the activity, we had a go on playing the Summer Learning Journey SpiderWeb Quiz game. Something I learned in the video is that spiderwebs are tricky as their designs are difficult. An activity I found hard was trying to cut out the spiderwebs because there were lots of layers but turned out cool!

Have you ever touched a tricky spiderweb before?

SLJ – Art in Web – Kick start

For this Summer Learning Journey Activity, I watched a tutorial on how to draw a spider web. This activity really intrigued me because if you didn’t do the right steps I’ll turn out wonky, so I followed the steps in order to make my web. I firstly grabbed a paper and pencil to sketch it out. After I finished I took a photo and put it on my blog, explaining what I did. I enjoyed this task because I got to learn about the art of web.

SLJ – Taniwha (Te reo)

For this Summer Learning Journey Activity (Te reo Maori), We were challenged by the Manaiakalani to draw a Taniwha, first I went and researched about Taniwha’s to know what a Taniwha is and What it does. Then I found a image and traced it with the tools you have on google draw, In the backround i drew mountains and bushes and then I put the taniwha into water. I found this Summer Learning Journey Activity interesting because They hide in a secret hide out also known as rua Taniwha, which could be deep pools, caves, or dangerous waterways  areas that people avoid going to.

SLJ – Animals With Superpower

For this Summer Learning Journey, I designed a critter or creature with superpowers. I had to think about what special powers I want it to have based on real animal adaptations that I’ve learned about. Create its features, like it’s eyes, ears and teeth. And then put them together to make a creature that embodies superpowers. You can use your favourite app or free-hand draw a picture using paper, pen or pencil. I wanted to make my lion to fly but I thought of how common that was, so my friend gave me a suggestion of doing a force shield. So I did a force shield, it represents how if the lion is in danger it can easily activate the force shield preventing any dangerous preys trying to attack. I enjoyed this activity because it made me really think about what superpowers would fit my animal.

SLJ – Comic Style Presentation

For this SLJ (Summer Learning Journey) we had to find a creature who had a super power, For example: A chameleon has a very special power. Which is camouflaging, they can camouflage in their surroundings. My creature that I picked is a fire ant because of what they can do and their ability to stay safe during enemies’ alert. Fire ants are small, copper-brown insects that have a painful, burning sting and build soil mounds. They are aggressive and known for their rude swarming behaviour when a nest is disturbed. And can cause severe allergic reactions in some people. Something I learnt is that they use their ability to fight against their enemies.

SLJ : Seaside Maths Quest – Activity 20

`For this Summer Learning Journey Activity, I was challenged to do a hunt based of big shapes and patterns. I had to find shapes and patterns around me, For example: my task was to find a star shaped item or object, I found a Star shaped cookie cutter. Then you would have to take a photo of it then write why you choose it and what it is. If I couldn’t find any resources of that shape or pattern I would just find a image on Google and use it as my pattern or object.

I found this SLJ activity fun because I got to go on a hunt around my house hunting for objects or pattern.

SLJ : Waka – Activity 19

For this SLJ activity, I was challenged to design my own waka, and label parts of my Waka. But before I start designing, I have to know what parts are what, and a few things about wakas. Thankfully, there were videos linked to the activity, so I watched those. Then, I went onto Google to take inspiration. I found a few I liked and based my Waka on them. I make sure to label the parts, and added a background to make it POP!

I enjoyed this Summer Learning Journey activity because I got create and learn how to create my own Waka with labels of the names of the parts of the Waka.
