Range Maths

The Range is subtracting the highest number by the lowest number in a set of data. For example: “Find the mode in the following data set” 1, 8, 4, 23, 5, 6, 8, 3, To find the range, you have to multiply the largest number by the lowest. First step, order the numbers from the smallest to the largest number.  1, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 8, 8, 8, 23.  Seeing from the organized data, you can tell that the largest number is 23. So you do 23 – 1, which is 22. So the range of this data set is 22.

I found this task interesting because I got to learn range is subtracting the highest number by the lowest number in a set of data.

Mode Maths

The mode is the number that appears the most in a set of data. For example: “Find the mode in the following data set” 1, 8, 4, 23, 5, 6, 8, 5, 3, 8. To solve this, you have to see which number appears the most. First, you order the numbers from the smallest to the biggest. Then, you can determine which of the numbers is the mode. 1, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 8, 8, 8, 23.  From the listed numbers, you can see that the number 8 is the mode because it is the number that appears the most, with it showing 3 times.

I found this task interesting because I got to learn what ode is in maths.

Median Maths

The Median is the value in the middle of a data set. To find it, you just have to figure out the number that is the the middle of an organized data set. For example: “Find the median in the following data set, 3, 2, 7, 12, 5, 8, 9”. First, order the numbers from the smallest to largest number. 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12. Now, you find the number in the middle. Which in this case it 12. But if there are two numbers in the middle, add them together and divide it by 2. For example, 3, 2, 7, 12, 5, 8, 9, 0. Once again, order them from the smallest to the biggest.  0, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12. The median in this data set is 5 and 7. Since there are 2 numbers as the median, you add them up and divide by 2. 5 + 7 = 12, and 12 divided by 2 is 6. So the median in this equation, is 6.

I found this task interesting because I go to learn why median is the value in the middle of data set.

 

Mean Maths

For we learnt what about mean ,The mean is the average number of a data set. To find the mean, you have to add up all the numbers in the data set, and divide it by the amount of numbers there are. For example: “Find the average in following numbers listed” 3, 2, 7, 12, To answer this equation, you have to add up the numbers.  Eg. 3 + 2 + 7 +12 is 24. Next step is dividing 24 by the amount of numbers. Since there are 4 numbers in the data set, you divide 24 by 4, which should give you 6. So your answer is 6. Can you solve the mean for the next one? 9, 18, 3, 5

I found this task interesting because I got to learn the mean of a average number.

Adding Fractions

LI : To add Fractions

When adding fractions with common denominators, we just add the numerator, and the denominator stays the same. When we don’t have a common denominator, it won’t work out. For example, ½ of the class has a pet dog, and ⅓ of the class has a pet cat. What fraction of the class has a pet? 

First, we have to make the fractions have common denominators. To do that, we have to find the lowest common multiple for the denominators. In this case, 2 and 3. The lowest common multiple for 2 and is 6. Remember, whatever you do to the denominator, you do to the numerator. So if we are multiplying the denominator 2 by 3 to make 6, we have to multiply the numerator by 3. Along with the ⅓, if we are multiplying the denominator by 2 to make 6, we have to do the same to the numerator (multiply it by 2).

The question is now 3/6 + 2/6. Since the denominators are the same, we just add the numerators and the denominators stay the same. The answer should be ⅚. ⅚ of the class have pets.

I found this task interesting because I got to learn how to add fractions.

Area of a circle

 

For this task we learnt about the Area of a circle, The formula of finding the area is pi x r2. What is radius and pi? The Radius is a line that goes from one side of a circle to the centre of the circle and pi is approximately 3.14. How to find the Area of a circle? To find the area of a circle, you have to follow the formula: pi x r2. Pi is 3.14, and the radius is the line going from one side of the circle to the center. If the radius was 3cm, you would have to do the radius2 x pi (3.14). The radius is 3, and pi is 3.14. So you would have to solve 32 x 3.14. First you do the 32, which is 9, and then 9 x 3.14. Which is 28.26. Your answer is 28.26 cm

I found this task interesting because I got to learn how to find the area of a circle and what is radius and pi.

Tech – Observation and Insights

On Friday for Tech we learned about the different parts of flowers and how they work. We started off explaining what Observation and Insights mean, Observation means your looking around and listening, Insights means the capacity to gain an accurate and deep understanding of someone or something. Did you know? There are estimated to be around 300,000 to 400,000 different species of flowering plants. Various species of flowers serve a variety of ecological, evolutionary, and cultural functions. One thing I learnt about flowers was: Pollination: Flowers attract pollinators (like bees, butterflies, and birds) with their colours, scents, and nectar, aiding in the transfer of pollen from stamens to pistils. Fertilization: After pollination, flowers facilitate the fertilization process by allowing pollen to reach the ovules in the ovary and form seeds. Seed and Fruit Production: Once fertilization occurs, the ovary develops into a fruit that houses the seeds, ensuring the dispersal and propagation of the plant.

I found this task interesting because I got to oberserve what Pollination, Fertilzation and seed and fruit production do to the flowers.

Tuvalu Maths Translation

For this task we made a Tuvalu Maths translation. In this DLO it shows the words in English then translated into Tuvalu words. As you can see in this DLO first word is Mulitiplaction In Tuvalu it is called Faopoopo second Subtraction In Tuvalu it is called Toese. Third Equal – Fakapau fourth Divide – Vaevae fifth Muliply – Fatele. > – foliki ifo and lastly > – asi atu.

I found this task interesting because I got to learn how to say new maths words in Tuvalu.

Samoan Maths translation

For this task I made a Samoan Maths translation. I made this for Samoan language week in this DLO it shows the words in English then translated into Samoan words. As you can see in this DLO the first word Is Add in Samoan we say Fa’aopoopo second is Subtraction which is Toese. Third one Multiplication in Samoan we say Fa’atele fourth Division – Vaevaega Fifth Equal – Tutusa. and the last two is < – Laiti and > – Tetele.

I found this task interesting because I got to embrace my cultural language.

Tokelau Language Week


For this task we had to write ten interesting facts about Tokelau for Tokelau Language Week. Somthing I learnt after researching about ten facts about Tokelau, One fact we wrote in our DLO is that, The name Tokelau was invented on December 9th 1976. Our second fact is the “Did you know that Tokelau is a non self governing territory under New Zealand?”. Our third interesting fact about Tokelau is “Tokelau is a word meaning “north wind” in Gagana Tokelau  (Tokelauan Language) “.

I found this task interesting because I learnt 10 new interesting facts about Tokelau.
